Kids Vision for Life St. Louis welcomed two new optometrists to our team, Dr. Christy Hayes and Dr. Kim Brown in the 2016 school year. We spoke with Dr. Hayes to learn more about her interest in eye health and her role within our program.
When did you first become interested in eye health?/Why did you choose to go into optometry?
I was first drawn to optometry when I had the opportunity to assist an optometrist during an eye examination. As soon as I watched him perform an exam I knew that was what I wanted to do.
What is your favorite part of being an eye doctor?
I love working with families and watching kids grow, seeing them go through life changes such as starting high school or picking their college/major.
What is your favorite part of working with KVFL?
Knowing that all the kids we work with will benefit so much from the service.  A lot of these kids have much higher prescriptions than the average kids seen in private practice so they need the glasses more than the average kid.  The fact that we are the ones that can help get them the glasses they need is very rewarding.
Any hobbies, interests, pets, etc outside of work?
I recently got married to James and love spending time with my large, Italian family.
