Kids Vision for Life St. Louis has over 300 volunteers who help our team run screening days at local elementary and middle schools. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, ranging from high school students to retired school teachers.

Last year, local seniors from Westminster Christian Academy began volunteering with our program to fulfill community service hours. The students who volunteered during the 2015-16 school year enjoyed their time with us so much they recommended our program to the 2017 senior class. We were excited to welcome two new Westminster seniors to our volunteer program this school year.

MaryKate, a senior at Westminster and a three-sport athlete, has volunteered once a week with our program during the 2016-17 school year. MaryKate has spent time on both screening and exam days and has also helped our team dispense glasses to schools.

How did you find out about KVFL and what about our program made you want to volunteer?
I heard about KVFL through a friend from my school who loved volunteering. I had never heard of KVFL before, but now I enjoy working with the kids once a week and giving them the opportunity to be able to improve their vision. As someone who wears glasses, I find KVFL crucial to all children.

Why do you like volunteering with KVFL?
I like volunteering for KVFL because I think it is a constructive organization that is very beneficial to children. I like the atmosphere KVFL brings to each school; everyone is working to make a positive impact on the children.

Do you have a favorite memory from volunteering with our program?
Some of my favorite memories include watching the reactions of each of the children as they are being tested. Also, I like watching the children put on glasses for the first time and be amazed at all they can see.
